From hybrid scooter to zero emission super sports car, from electric bicycle to the mythical completely electric Ape Calessino. At Greenergy Expo 2009/Enersolar+ there will be a special area dedicated to mobility of the future.
Among the numerous vehicles on show – with two, four and even … three wheels – the one that is destined to attract the most attention from visitors is certainly the Tesla Roadster, a real zero emission electric supercar. Created by American Tesla Motors, it combines high performance, design and clean technology, tying together the idea of a sports car with criterion of sustainable mobility. Tesla Roadster has become famous as it has, among its financial partners, the founders of Google - Sergey Brin and Larry Page – and the co-founder of the PayPal payment system, Elon Musk. But above all, it is very well known for being the vehicle of stars such as George Clooney, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Matt Damon. Sporty, attractive, and with two seats, Tesla Roadster can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in only 3.9 seconds, and uses lithium ion batteries that give an autonomy of 400 kilometres, recharging in only 3.5 hours.
As far as the world of motorbikes is concerned, Piaggio will be present with the MP3 Hybrid, the first hybrid scooter in the world, which integrates traditional low environmental impact thermal propulsion with zero emission electric motorization. The MP3 Hybrid can reach the speed of up to 60 km/l, compared to an average distance of 26 km/l of mid-sized petrol-fuelled scooters and its emissions of CO2 decrease to only 40 g/km compared to the average 90g/km of traditional thermal scooters. At the Sustainable Mobility Area, Piaggio will also have on show a three-wheeled vehicle, the Ape Calessino, which proposes a very original solution of mobility with the new “zero emission” version, equipped with electrical propulsion by means of lithium batteries and an autonomy of 75 km. Along with its features of practicality, elegance and ease-of-use, which made it successful in the 1950s, when it was used by Hollywood film stars visiting Capri and the most beautiful islands of the Mediterranean area, the new Ape Calessino Electric Lithium combines the possibility of being able to reach all those areas normally foreclosed to vehicles with traditional thermal propulsion, such as particularly important natural and environmental areas, historical urban centres and ZTL (Reduced Traffic Zones).
In the Sustainable Mobility Area, there will also be vehicles on show that are a valid alternative to cars and motorbikes for short trips. These include the Segway, the famous self-balancing scooter invented by Dean Kamen which, thanks to its electric motor, works with zero emissions and can therefore also be used in covered and closed areas and buildings. The model on show at Greenergy/EnerSolar+ is the i2, able to reach speeds of 20 km/h and with a maximum autonomy of 38 km. There will also be an example of the electric bicycle, which is an option to take into consideration for short urban trips instead of the more polluting combustion engine scooters.
Last but not least, the will also be an “alternative” type of competition vehicle – the Citroën C1 HDI – which has competed this year in the FIA Alternative Energies Cup world championship, driven by the Di Bella-Collovà equip, finishing in third place. Entrusted to the private racing group RaceBioConcept of Rome by Citroën Italia, the C1 is fuelled by B100 biodiesel from Diester-Novaol.
